Mossberg 590A1 - Ghost Rings or Bead

I can't seem to get this baby out of my head, so I'm just going to have to go for it.

Now it's just a matter of bead sight or the more expensive ($75) Ghost Ring, which has a bantam stock and is slightly more compact (an inch).

It will become one of two HD weapons. From what I've read, a bead is all you need as it's a point and shoot situation.

But I'd also like to take it out to the range where I can shoot buck and slugs at a 25 yard target. That kind of shooting where it see it's most use. I've got an ol' Winchester 1200 for trap and skeet.

So in writing this, I think I've reasoned out my final decision. Ghost rings.

Please chime in if you have something to add.

    Merry Christmas to me!!

    And to you too.

Bead sight is preferred for home defense. You would likely use your shotgun in a point and shoot manner, looking at the target, not the sight. Unless you trained extensively that is...

    Bead just looks better too

Gotcha on that gotshotgun. Yes, it's a HD weapon. But chances are I will never need to use it in that kind of situation. Shooting slugs and buck at the 25 yard range is where it will see action. I'm assuming the "fun factor" would increase with Ghost Rings, but I could be wrong. Is a bead enough for that application too?

Ghostrings for slugs at 25 yards would be ideal. If that's where you will use it then get the ghostrings. it's really a win win situation for you! Just a note though, that bantam stock is tough to love. I had the 12 inch hogue but it was just too short, ie hand in face. So I ordered the aimpro 13 inch version for a perfect fit.

I hit the 1 gal. milk jugs with my Ghost ring shotgun 100 % of the time, but not the bead sight. I shoot both rapid fire loading each shell. the 500 is much lighter than the 590 so I really wish my 500 had the rings

I'm assuming your Winchester has bead sight? Why don't you try shooting slugs and buckshots with it at 25 yards and see how you do? If you can hit well, I'll say go with bead sight. That way you won't be trying to use 2 different types of sight and impacting your clay shooting scores.

for a shotgun there really isnt a need for anything above a bead.
Its also alot easier to snap shoot with the bead.

go for the bead. If you only plan on shooting your slugs at 25 yards, you dont need a ghost ring.

I went heat shield/bead years ago when they first came out. I'd go ghost ring if I had to do over.

Ghost rings were good enough for Col. Cooper; they're good enough for me!

Ghost rings can be removed from receiver, and switched to a bead barrel.

Not the other way around, because you would have to drill and tap or use a rail.

                              Ghost rings.
