    Question about police breaching round

My brother mentioned that he saw a police demonstration of door breaching, during which the police used a shotgun without a stock and that the recoil is very low (or looked that way to him.

Are these door breaching shells very low recoil ones?

Also, the use of a shotgun without a stock is a curious choice. I thought it odd but a picture on wiki seems to indicate UK police does this too. I guess they don't use the shotgun after kicking in the door?

While I have no way to provide the exact foot pounds of recoil, the ones I am familiar with do recoil much the same as any other shotgun round. The ones I used were made very similar to standard shotguns rounds, with the exception that the pellets were replaced with a “bullet” made of compressed copper powder.

I don't know what the police use for door breaching but people do shoot regular 12 ga ammo through those pistol grip only shotguns. They fire from the hip to absorb the recoil.

        Technique.

You do not need a stock or sights when you have it has a secondary or dedicated to entry purposes.

The breaching gun is dedicated to breaching. My guess is that a compressed dust round would be a poor fighting round as it is designed to break apart on impact.

If you hit something between you and the target and the round broke apart it might not be effective on the intended bad guy

It is also a pump with limited capacity and you have fired 1,2 or 3 rounds to enter as you have shot a dead bolt and a lower lock and or 2 to 3 hinges.

So ammo capacity would be low on entry.

The pistol grip keeps the overall size small
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
          (thanks to Jeff Cooper)

I have a box of federal LE breaching rounds on my desk, the brass isn't nearly as high as buckshot so the recoil should be much less. Haven't tried them out yet though.

How do they compare to common shells like slugs, buckshots and birdshots in terms of recoil? Are they more like birdshots or the heavier recoiling slugs and buckshots?

Here is the brass on the breaching rounds compared to some buckshot.
