picatinni mount on remington 48....how?

So, I gave my HD pump to my nephew. I have an old remington 48 that is a safe queen that id like to move into the HD vacancy. I recently traded the 30" barrel for an 18", & added a +2 mag extension. Id like to add a picatinni rail to the top of the receiver so I could add a red dot. Any ideas or thoughts on how this might be accomplished. If I cant have one, its not a "deal breaker" but itd be nice for the Mrs.

I was thinking of drilling and tapping the receiver. Loc-tite on the screw threads, and maybe a layer of epoxy in between the receiver and picatinni before I screw them together. Then a little grinding & polishing of the inner top of the receiver so the screws do not interfere with the bolt. Any thoughts on this ? any advice from somebody who has done something similar.

Or, does somebody have an easier simpler method ?

Don't ***** up a nice Remington 48 for home defense. You will turn a nice gun into crap. Go get a $300 Mossberg instead.

I had a problem matching a rail base to my Defenders aluminum reciever contour. I sandblasted it and had my Smith fix it by tapping the reciever and adding a base of epoxy to blend in the rail with the reciever. Haven't had any problems with the fix. That was done about three years ago.

I have seen guys trying to run that. If the screws are a tiny tight the bolt will bind, and it never holds zero. The only way is to drill and tap the receiver. The problem is nobody makes a picatinny rail mount with matching contour for the old 48.

Picatinni rails are for Italian made shotguns..

Forgot about the Burris Speed Bead, the mount is between the butt stock and the end of the receiver, no drilling or tapping required. I have one on my Benelli M1 Super 90 Open shotgun, they run good and hold zero, even after hundreds of slugs in 3 gun matches.
