Went looking for an 870P, bought something else UPDATE POST 22

I went to my local LE gun store looking for a new 870P yesterday. While looking one over they told me they had some used police shotguns in the back.

They brought out two older shotguns and I bought them both for just slightly more than the new 870p would have been.

Both are ex Sacramento PD Wingmaster 12G with 18" barrels and 4 rd tubes. As usual with these types of weapons, they look to have been carried a lot and rarely shot.

The first one has the 870p type furniture while the second one has the sporting gun style wood and also has a magnaported barrel. Both have standard bead front sights.

Both shotguns function checked perfectly and had silky smooth action and none of the cheap plastic parts you find on guns nowadays. These should make great 'house' guns as that was going to be the purpose of the 870P. Now I can have one upstairs and another downstairs.

The phone pics were taken quickly as they boxed them up, but I will post better pics when I pick them on 12/27.

    Thanks for reading!

Yes I was, because they normally don't sell used stuff and it was mentioned offhand, just as an FYI. I have always wanted an older Wingmaster because of their legendary smooth action, and I have read a lot that old school Remington QC was better than you find on new production guns. I'd guess these are 1970's era scatterguns. The wood furniture is well used but completely intact and serviceable.

^--- Jealous. Everytime I have tried to purchase an old Wingmaster I have been too slow

Nice find. It never hurts to ask what lurks in the back room.

budgetary constraints at this time of the year prevent me from even walking inside the door of my lgs, but if i did walk in and those 870s were presented to me… i'd jump on em.

Nice pick-up, BR. Can you imagine how many times those fine 870's were racked over their career? You couldn't pay for an action job that smooth! So what if the furniture is a little worn? Those SG's will serve you well for decades to come!
You will never, in your life, have a chance like this again.
If I were you, I would not pass this up. I would not let this go by...this is rare.
                          Come on...what harm??

NICE man. I like when that happens.

I recently sold a Benelli M2 that was totally done, up and bought a Beretta 1301 Comp.

                            This one..http://www.rem870.com/2012/11/10/ber...ical-shooting/

Not planned on, and Semi- auto now is totally reliable and faster. Had all the features I wanted and didn't void the factory warranty.

I congrat you on your purchase and you'll be happy. I've been looking for a Wingmaster and was going to go through the extremes of turning an 870P into a wingmaster and and having all the furniture changes and a high polish blue.

                            Very happy for you.

You will not know if you made a good deal till you shoot them. Many of these are traded in because they are unfit for duty. Also, Armorers (not me of course) will go through the guns to be traded in and canablize the best parts and put junk parts in. Go shoot them then tell us if it was a good deal.

If you're going to a gun fight, take a shotgun. If you can't take a shotgun, don't go.
