    Information on a shotgun

I have a shotgun that was passed on to me but not clear on the worth and history. There is a R with a crown on top and number 499. The barrel is Damascus steel. It's a side by side 12 gauge. Looks like its made in Germany around 1870s. On top if the barely it says "h. Chr. Klett & sohne Zella.

If you can post a pic or two it would be best. Im not an expert on SXSs But there are a few here. Or I know one on another board that might be able to help. But they will need a pic to start with. DR

Been doing more research for you and I believe the gunmaker was Heinrich Christoph Klett.

To get a really good ID, you need to pull the barrels and forend off and photograph or copy in detail the markings on the flats of the bottom of the barrels that mate with the action and on the flats of the action that mate with the barrel flats as well as the butt plate and the reciever. Leave no stone unturned!

I have some sources to seek out more on the gun but I'll need the complete details of every identifying proof marks and inscription and their location as well as many more pictures showing every detail and location of the identifying proof marks on the shotgun as well as anything imprinted on the barrels themselves. What you presented so far is just a start...give me every detail and I think I can get you the info you're asking for.

              I'll take it!

Always wanted a Damascus hammer gun for over the fireplace.

Seen a few, but one's with all their part fetch more than I wanna pay for decoration. Nothing specific to this gun or it's possible history, but I'd ballpark it at $500-$1000.
