    Mossberg 590A1 Review

    Pros:Cons:
-Relatively expensive compared to other pump guns.
-Some folks will consider the aluminum receiver to be a con for the gun (I don't think it matters either way as the lockup is still steel on steel).

All in all the 590A1 is as good as any pump shotgun out there and better than many. It's seen military/LEO/competition use for many years and continues to prove itself time and time again. Here's a video with some shooting and a discussion of the pros/cons/features of the shotgun:

Choate makes some nice and affordable tube extensions. IIRC they are now the oem for factory mossbergs that have extensions.

Great post, thanks. I've got the 930 SPX and I'm worried about its reliability for HD. I've had some FTE issues at the range with the 930 and that's got me worried.

I've seen the 590A1 posted up for sale locally in the $600 range. It seems like a lot of LE and Military agencies use it so I'm leaning towards making the switch.

I know this statement will open a can of worms but I much prefer a pump shotgun for any sort of defensive use. My splits are pretty darn close and my 590s and 870Ps are as reliable as it gets; can't say that about some of the semi-autos I've used over the years.

Based on my experience with the 930, I'll have to agree. As soon as I started experiencing issues I started doubting its use for HD. I also read the Mossberg 930 forums and it's not hard to miss some of the issues if one plans to use it for HD.

So what configuration would you recommend for the 590A1? Buds seems to have just about any configuration available.

Well, if stock guns are the option, the version here with the light and 18.5'' barrel would be a great option for HD.

I am so tempted by a 590A1. Gallery of Guns has some models on sale. Quotes give a number of pricing options, which include everything. Pretty reasonable some are. I don't really need a shotgun of this type, but that doesn't seem to be curbing my enthusiasm.

Shot mine and it functioned great! Thinking about a pistol grip addition but I like the rifle stock I think. 12 gauge with a bayonet lug is BAD!

                        So what.

I prefer his reviews and videos over the abundant content of throwaway reviews of guns posted by people who have never shot them and tactical analysis of .mil and LE events by people who have never done either.

I think there is room for this member to coexist with BLMistan tactical experts, fat preppers, talking head armchair generals/SWAT commanders, and SHTF/Zombie/9mm vs 45/AR vs AK cannon fodder types.

What barrel clamp do you have on there? Every clamp i come across on the wed has an asterisk saying "will not fit heavy walled a1 barrels"

What was that one rule we all were (probably) taught growing up? If you don't have something nice to say...

So what if he does video reviews? I'm sure someone MAY have actually found it useful! Is he making money from the YouTube videos? I don't know, but he is taking his time share his review and opinions of the 590 with us on OUR forum. I don't think it warrants being attacked.
