Are AAs or STS worth the extra $20 a case if I don't reload? Is the shot same as lower priced versions on same brand?

AA's are all I use anymore, I load light and the seem to last forever, some so long I still have some red 20 ga cases! Best advice I could give to somebody just starting shot shell reloading is find a case you like and forget about the rest.

No, if youre not reloading, and youre not shooting 2 flats a day, then you dont need to pay the extra money. Buy fed gun club and you will get the same thing for cheaper. If you reload, you should pay up, but you dont

I've seen advertisement for those Winchester AA Tracker shells, have not tried those yet but if they work, can be very useful if you shoot with a buddy who can spot the tracking wad for you.

I thought about those shells last weekend when my colleague and I were shooting at Coyote Valley. He mentioned that it is difficult to see how he's missing the clay, and I agree. Would've been useful to have these shells. I think I bring a case along for our next shoot to see how they work.

Did not like them. The #8 is not too bad, but still barely visible by the puller if at all. Still have a few 7.5 shot boxes, and saving them for sporting clays as they are faster, and kick like hell. The orange ones are easier for the someone other than the shooter to see.

To answer the first question, no it's not worth it you aren't going to reload. Just buy whatever is cheap.

From what I understand, it's negligible off the 16 yd line. I guess where it matters is when you're shooting handicap and need to make sure the shot breaks the clay.

Its because some manufacturers use those STUPID clear wads in their factory loads instead of silver or red or blue. I could never see my wad when i shot factory loads. Now the wad in my reloads is silver, and i never miss it

What I've noticed in my own, as yet very newbie shooting, is that the shot size doesn't matter as much as the load size (eg. 1oz vs 1 1/8 oz) at the 16 yard line.

I've noticed that with the softer recoil 1oz loads, I have to do my job better and the 1 1/8oz loads seems to be a little more forgiving. There have been a few times, when I was sure I would've missed with the 1 oz load, but the 1 1/8oz allowed the shot to chip the clay and it broke off a small piece.

But since you're constantly shooting in your 20s, I doubt the difference in shot and load size matters. I only managed to get into the 20s once, and that was because the trap machine at Coyote Valley malfunctioned and locked up. It would throw clays at the same height and straight away for like 10 shots, then it started moving again. So I got essentially "free" 10 hits.

My general answer would be no.

You could also wait when Winchester does it's annual rebate on AA. Usually $2 off each box, so $20 a flat. That is when you load up on 5 flats (they limit it to 5 flats). Usually runs spring through summer months.

You could also sell the once fired hulls to offset cost. Probably get $.05 a a hull for 12 g, but could be more.
