    Question about Paper loads.

I recently acquired 150 rounds of 16 gauge ammo. Most of it is fairly old, right on the border between paper loads and plastic.

My question is, are the paper loads worth anything besides shooters prices? About 50 of the rounds are J.C Higgins by Sears Roebuck. And another 30-35 are Winchester assortment with most being super x.

I have also heard the early boxes themselves could be worth more than the shells.

Any info would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Also I know the Winchester box says plastic but it is filled with paper loads.

Paper shells works better than plastic in Lee Loaders (the hand tool you pound with a mallet). They crimp better. I think once fired paper would sell on Gunbroker for more than plastic.

So the paper shells are reloadable? Hmm I wouldn't think they are. All the shells i have are un fired.

I used to use paper shells (Federal Champion?) in High School years ago. Shoot them in the morning and reload them at night for the next day with a little press - "Lee load all" - If I remember right. Work great. ;-)

Old ammo can be valuable to some. Especially a full box with the proper box.

You could list on Gunbroker. Generally not a LOT of money, but considerably more than replacement cost in plastic.

Paper shells were reloaded long before the advent of plastic shells.

I just picked up two cases of old paper hull Redhead 12ga, one is unopened. Both cases are ink stamped Montgomery Wards, Fresno, Ca Sept 1968. Boxes and ammo are mint.
Couldn't decide if it had any collector value, so I did a Google search. I found an auction on Ebay where a empty box with wear marks sold for $14!
Now I have to figure out what I'm going to do with all off it.

Yeah I was thinking of just shooting the shells. And trying to sell the boxes for 9-10 bucks a piece maybe? Or if I could get 20-25 with the shells it might be worth it. Midway has fiocchi 16 trap/game shells for 8.99 a box or 90 a case right now.

Does anyone think the safety of shooting them will be an issue? They seem to be pretty well kept.

On that Super X box, does it say plastic hulls, or plastic shot cup?
Those boxes, better when full, have collector value.
