    Stoeger 12ga coach gun

Just picked one up at big5. Been wanting one for a while. Anybody have experience with these? Does the action get any lighter or smoother? Anything you can do to make the break or lever any less stiff? I figure I would get a sling or maybe a shell holder for the stock. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

I picked one up a few months ago. It's great. It did require a lot of cleaning and a bit of slicking:

Awesome. That was exactly what I was looking for. Did you try any of that? If so, how did it turn out?

When I fired this coach gun using Fiocchi low recoil 00 buckshots, it stabbed me pretty good in the shoulder. A recoil pad of some sort would be nice on this shotgun.

Good idea. Especially if you're planning on firing both barrels at once.

Yeah, I cut off about 2 1/2 turns of the release latch spring, that was a big help. I did them about a turn at a time, just half the last time. It's a real ***** getting it in and out to check too.

Also cut off enough of the pin that activates the auto safety, manual safety only now.

The factory grease/gunk is thick, I used a lot of Break Free CLP and let it soak for over an hour. I think another treatment is in order. Also worked with some emory cloth on a few parts. The extractor could use a little bit more adjustment. A little more polishing on the contact parts between the barrel and receiver would be good.

It's not slicked up enough for cowboy action, but then I didn't buy it for that anyway.

About 100 rounds through it so far, mixed between buckshot and target. Yes I've fired double barrels with buckshot several times with it. Very ugly bruises after doing a few of those in one session.

                It's awesome.

But yeah, definitely a recoil pad is recommended. I just got a Pachmyr slip-on so we'll see how that works next time I want to shoot some buckshot at Reed's

There is a company called " Long Hunters" that sells a softer latch spring and harder firing pins for this Stoeger . After firing not that many rounds started experiencing soft primer strikes/failure to fire . The new firing pins cured the problem and the new spring made opening much easier . I honed the cylinders with the extractor removed and tested between honing until spent shells fell out when you opened the barrels and turned the gun over . The extractor had both rough and sharp edges that were hanging up the shells so they would not fall out just with gravity . A little filing and sanding with emory cloth fixed that problem . My coach gun came from the factory so hard to open and with so much grit in it I basically had to disassemble the whole gun to clean it up . After all of the sweat equity my gun is very smooth opening and closing now . I can load shells and flip the barrels up one handed and latch up the action . I am not a Cowboy action shooter but my coach gun could be .

Just picked it up and had a reduced tension spring from long hunters waiting. Going to install that and maybe try and smooth out the contact points for now. Will post pictures when it's all cleaned

Just took it to the range and put a few rounds through it. 00 buck out of both barrels was pretty fun, but I ordered a recoil pad anyway lol. Anybody have any experience with buttstock shell holders? Can't seem to find anything.
