No, it just means that the mag tubes for the two guns are the same length. The barrel length has nothing to do with the mag tube length. You can check for the wooden dowel by removing the barrel screw and then tipping the gun downward? If you have a wooden dowel in there, it will poke out when you lower the gun.

The difference between 18.5 and 20 is 1.5 inches. An additional shotgun shell needs 2.75 inches.

OP do you have an example of a Mossberg 500 with 7+1 capacity?

From looking at all the Mossberg 500s on Mossberg's website, all of the 18.5" barrel 500s only have 5+1 capacity. Also by the way the barrel lug works on the 500, it is not possible for the mag tube to have the same capacity on a 18.5" barrel as the 20" barrel.

You must have it mixed up with the 930 SPX which has an 18.5" barrel and 7+1 capacity. That gun uses a different mag tube with a barrel lug at the gas port.

The 500 Persuader 20" 7+1 is a LEO model found only in their LEO catalog. http://www.mossberg.com/images/Mossb...ure/index.html page 10 Item # 50577. I am selling one with some upgrades if you want to see a picture of one, click my link.

Actually, a "2-3/4" shell is about that long after its fired. Most crimped rounds are around 2-3/8" when loaded. Getting 7 rounds in an 18.5" gun or getting 8 rounds in a Mossberg 590 is really crushing that mag spring about as far as mechanicallly possible. If you figure on seven 2.375" shells, that's 16.625" of ammo so the spring and follower are crammed into under 2" at the end. On the M590 that ends up being 19" of ammo and under 2" for an even longer spring. I've pulled quite a few bound-up mag springs out of guns where someone was determined to cram one more round in there

I meant to ask if the OP had an example of a Mossberg 500 18.5" with 7+1 capacity. The 20" 7+1 are very common as they're always on special at Big 5.

If it has the dowel you'd only be able to get two rounds in the magazine.
