    Maverick 88 problems feeding?

So my problem that I've run into is that it seems that whenever I load my maverick with more that 3-4 rounds, after the spent shells are fired/cycled, something in the tube gets stuck and fails to grab the next round.

Now from what I've read, I was thinking I might have to lube the Mag tube and then the spring would push that "thing" (sorry don't know what it's called) down in order to properly load the next round. Has anyone else had this issue? I mean from one day to the next it just started doing this. And being that I used to have a mossberg 500 (sold it), I haven't really fired many rounds through my maverick at all, maybe three to four boxes at most so I'm thinking its not due to heavy use.

I also took it apart and with a rag, removed the little bits of grime left in the chamber and barrel, so I'm a bit perplexed as to what is causing this issue for a relatively new gun.

Is the plug still in the tube? Maybe its catching something?
Have you opened the tube and inspected/cleaned the follower? That is that "thing" the spring pushes thru the tube.

Well the thing is that the tube doesn't open on mine because its the 7 shot model and also didn't come with a plug. So how should I go about lubeing it?

I believe on the M88 you have to remove the whole tube to get the spring and follower out for cleaning because the threaded boss for the barrel's mount is permanently attached to the end of the magazine tube.

So OP, unload it, take the barrel off, rack the slide back, place the buttshock between your feet and grab the magazine tube and twist it left (counterclockwise). Remove, inspect for any dents or obstructions in the magazine tube and follower, clean, lube and reassemble.

I had the same issue with my Remington 1100, for me I had a dimple in my mag tube, and my follow was getting chewed up.

the fix: I took out the spring and follower, used my dremel to remove the dimple in my mag tube, then used my dremel to smoothen out the follower. Now it feeds perfect.
