Convert your Mossberg 500 to 8 shot

I saw the black Friday ad from Brownells and they have a Mossberg 500 Barrel, tube and spring on sale to convert the standard Mossberg 500 to the 8 shot model.

The price at $120 seems great, but the set up comes with Rifle style sights, not ghost rings or a bead...

What do you all think? Is it worth the money to convert an older gun from the 5 shot tube to the 8 shot model?

Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

If you use the shotty a lot, then yes. If no, well then, leave it as is.

I would say rifle sights are an improvement over bead or ghost ring. But for twice the price you could buy another shotgun.

I shoot slugs. Yes, I'd love to have the barrel with the sights. Larger magazine, that's cool too.

This a smooth bore, not rifled? Most Slugs are finned and spin on their own.

Choke? Factory, Modified etc. I caught some flack from the "purists", I cut mine off with a hack saw. For wax, cut slugs or other modified shot shells.

Not worth it to me, as my 500 is an 18' barrel and although it doesn't seem like a lot, the balance is noticable. That, and the price of another Maverick is $100 more.

          WTB used AK MFER.

Have the 8 shot (7+1). But now I want to convert it to a 6 shot (5+1) so I can use a spare 28in field barrel for sporting clays.

Others have said, "If you can't get the job done with 6 shots........."

                That's a great price, I bought a trade-in 500 ATP for $150 +Transfer and tax.

Honestly the sights are good not great and definitely not the best.
If you plan on using this shotgun for HD or "Tactical" classes a bigger magazine tube is the way to go.
But a 5 round tube is more flexible between a 18.5 inch barrel and the 26 inch barrel for hunting/trap.
