Best way to bond a Big Dot?

I ordered a Big Dot to go over my pedestal bead sight on the 870P, just curious what y'all are using to bond these sights to the barrel.

Looks like the new sight doesn't sit flush with the pedestal so I need something that will fill the gap.

FYI, some of those aftermarket sights are designed to be soldered directly onto the barrel after the existing pedestal has been ground off or otherwise removed...

That being said, there shouldn't be a gap to fill in and the sight should mount flush to the barrel. You might want to talk to a gunsmith about professional mounting...

Apparently the Remington pedestals can vary in size, that's why mine doesn't sit flush on the tail end.

I'm gonna try that Loctite black sight adhesive, people on other forums have recommended JB Weld but that stuff is kinda greyish in color.

Yeah I don't want to go too crazy with it, just wanna be able to see the bead at night.

Are your ghost rings adjustable at all?

Might consider them for a different gun.

From all I've read about installing the XS sight, JB weld seems to be the preferred compound to use when installing it on the pedestal.

Weld it? That would FUBAR the tritium vile.

I use Loc-tite Black Max sight adhesive. I place the XS over the factory bead and trace it with pencil. I then pull it off and take a small screw driver and scratch off the finish inside the pencil line. I then take sand paper and remove the finish off the bottom of the XS sight. I am now bonding metal to metal and not finish to finish. I then put a dab of Black max on the base inside the pencil lines and one on the factory bead and place the XS on. I clamp it in place with a small clamp and use denatured alcohol on a shop rag to clean up the excess glue that comes out. If the XS sits above the base I simply fill that in will adhesive. I have installed many of these on duty weapons that are used and abused more then normal and have never had one come off.

used JB weld for my xs big dot on my 870. so far, hasnt budged after 300 rounds. if you apply it correctly, you dont see much of the gray color.

I saw that Loctite Black Max at Brownells, I'm going to order some and try it out.

Cool beans, use the method in my post and it will be done right and last a long time.
