Mossberg 500 front sight

I had the same thing happen to a new Mossberg shotgun I owned years ago. The screw in brass front sight works fine as long as it is locktited in place and does not protrude into the barrel. Mossberg quality control sometimes comes into question on this issue. I have seen other Mossberg front sights even screwed in cross threaded from the facory. Possibly your front sight protruded into the barrel and the shooting of the gun loosened it, that what I figured happened with my gun. Get a new sight installed with locktite, and make sure that it is flush in the barrel, should take care of the problem. If you go with an aftermarket bead, I believe the thread pattern for the original bead is #5-40.Last edited by wweigle; 11-17-2013, 5:59 PM. -
i never looked down the barrel to see if the sight protruded, didn't even occur to me, i'll be sure to check out the new one and use the heavy duty locktite on it this time. thats the first time i have ever had a sight just pop off like that.5.56: reach out and touch someone.
