Hypothetically...say I got a shotgun

....and I know nothing about it.... It's a 12 gauge made by 'Revelation', by Western Auto Supply Company. I don't know even know if it, hypothetically, fires. Can anyone tell me about their experiences with this shotgun? Good, bad, indifferent?

Depends on what type of shotgun it is. Different companies made different shotguns for them so without telling us more there can be no answers. Tell us the model number and we simply look in the back of the blue book at the Store Brand cross over list and can then tell you who made it and from that we can tell you more about it.

You've got an oddball.
Those were all low cost shotguns made in the 20th century for local stores.

Western auto shotguns were made by Savage, Stevens, Mossberg, Marlin, Springfield and others.

Does it have a model Number/Letter?

Fjold - You are correct using the term low cost. Sears, JC Penny and many others had Store Brands made by leading manufactures back then. They would cut some cost in the stocks and finish but the firearm was still the same. I have had many in my 60 years and all performed fine if made by the quality manufactures you mentioned. Still have a Revelation .410 wich is a Mossberg pump. And yes people JD owns a Mossberg as my father gave it to me and it serves as a gopher and woodchuck pest control expert with a very impressive kill record. My yard was loosing the war till my dad gave me this fine varmit killer.

I have one. Actually just posted a pic of it in the shotgun pic gallery thread.

It is quite literally the same exact thing as the Mossberg 500. It is a relabeled version of the Mossberg 500 which used to be sold in the 1970's by stores that are no longer around called Western Auto.

They are valued slightly less than the Mossberg 500 equivalents. Mine is a model 810a (12 gauge model) they were made in other commone shotgun gauges too.

I got mine for cheap at a local pawn shop and rebuilt it. It was jerry rigged and didnt work well until I put correct parts back into it. It had a nail for a firing pin and the wrong feed ramp from another size shotgun round. Quickly remidied with "bag of used mossberg 500 receiver parts" from Gun Broker. I'm sure if it actually had the correct parts in it to begin with when I bought it that it would have worked fine like it does now.

The ones I've seen pre-date serial numbering.. Western Auto has been gone for a looong time.

The model number will be right by the magazine tube on the receiver where you load the shells in. It's likely a Revelation 310a since you said it's chambered in 12 gauge.

Does it also have the C-lect a choke (variable choke) you twist on the end of the barrel for tighter or wider spray pattern?

I bought mine cheap at a pawn shop know that even if I bought a new $350+ Mossberg from Big 5, that I would just take it apart and put my own stuff on the gun anyways.
