Hey fellow CalGunners, how y'all doing? Any of y'all know local place ( So.Cal) that does porting for Mossberg 590 barrel? I've searched online and most of the shops are out of State. Thanks and have a good long weekend. God bless

Give Daniel a call. I do not specifically know that he does the work, but he is a first rate general gunsmith, with a well equiped shop, so I see no reason he wouldn't/couldn't.Last edited by 003; 11-09-2013, 12:47 PM. -
Another option would be to use ported extended choke. I would go this route if I were you.
What kind of shells are you shooting? If you're shooting typical clay target loads (eg. #7.5 and #8 birdshot), the porting won't do much.Comment

I have ports on my 930.... It's a waste/useless save your money bro.
IMO doesn't look that amazing either like on a Handgun.Comment

^^^ this
My buddy and I both bought Police Magnums at the same time.
He sent his to Vang Comp for the full barrel treatment.
Having fired both shotguns side by side on several different occasions, I can tell you right now it is not worth the money.
I don't feel any difference between the two.Comment

I'm just using buckshot and slug. It's my hd shotty. I shot my buddy shotty with ported barrel and I like it.Comment

I don't want to spend that much though, I checked Vang Comp website and that's a lot of money just to get your barrel ported.^^^ this

Ahh....yes, you should've mentioned this earlier. You see, many of those with factory ported barrels are actually clay shooting guns. We use birdshots and those don't generally generate enough barrel pressure or recoil for the porting to be of much use.
In your case, however, buckshots and slugs have hefty punches to them. I suspect that you will see enough difference to warrant the porting, or use of ported chokes.

Hopefully, if you ever have to HD with your ported HD shotty, your kid or significant other won't be crouching/standing anywhere near the ports. Could leave a nasty tattoo, and a broken eardrum. If I have to let loose with my 870, I don't think porting is going to make any difference, I will be so jacked up on adrenaline, plus I use controlled recoil ammo. Regards.sigpic

BTW it looks like President Obama loves his ported barrel shotgun too.
