    Improving at Trap

Now that I shot my first 25 last week, any suggestions on practice/improving at shooting trap?

The So. Cal. Clinics are a bit far away for me, so I need to practice in San Diego.

    Some thoughts I have:

    1. Use full choke for practice (so I'll need to be right on every shot).

    2. Use lighter loads with full choke (same reason).

    3. Try and get a field to myself, and start shooting same shot (like hard left from station 1) over and over till I nail it every time.

    4. Take up another game like 5 stand or sporting clays for practice.

    Any other ideas?

Also, maybe try an improve my 16 yard game, but shooting off 27 handicap to quicken my responses.

Is there a range close to you that uses either a manual or electric trap thrower for individual shooter? I'm thinking you can practice a lot with one of those because you won't have to wait for others to shoot and you can set the variation as you like.

For manual trap, you can do it alone, it'll be a little more difficult but I've seen people do it. Easier if you can get someone to load and launch the clay targets for you though.

When I was shooting a lot of trap and doing well, I got talked into shooting International Trap with the voice activated throwers. Good thing we got two shots.!!

I just went through this, process myself. Being in a trap league helped. We just finished a season and I averaged 20.5 out of 25. Posts 1 and 33 have my observations on what worked for me.

RIP Louis Awerbuck. I miss you and your training.

Seems like I'm better sticking with just one shotgun. Rather than learning sight picture for 2.

Your early in your trap shooting my advice is keep shooting what you have, your doing well with it, when the 25's turn to 50's and 75's but that 100 straight is just not there move up to a gun that will get it done.
