I was thinking of buying a 20 or 28 gauge Wingmaster for my daughters to shoot.

Does anyone know where I can find a youth size stock to replace the full size stock if I get one? Preferable one w/ an adjustable comb. Thx.

you can use the Remington 870 stocks, they are interchangeable with the Remington 870 wingmaster.

You'd likely have to search the web (trapshooters, shotgunworld, etc) for used ones. If you're looking for wood; most of the new youth ones you see for the 20g lw receiver are synthetic. I'd look into finding a second standard lengh wood stock and have it cut down and the comb added. The only new stock you can buy for an 870 that has an adjustable comb would be the synthetic ones by jack west, but those are for the 12g receivers. They did make a youth version of the wingmaster lw in 20ga at one point in time, so finding one of those may be a good option, then get the comb done.

Youth Stock is a misleading labeling.

If the Youth Stock has a LOP of 13 1/2" will that fit your child?

I recommend buying a second wood stock which can be cut with a simple chop saw to fit the shooter. Butt spacers can be easily added as the shooter grows. Shims can be added to change other stock dimensions. A simple comb riser can be made with mole skin.

I believe Speedfeed makes a youth one with a 13" LOP but it's synthetic. I thought of the same thing when looking for the wife. Otherwise it may be best to find a used wood stock and have it fitted.

fwiw, the wingmaster lw limited was a 20g with a 23" vent rib bbl and a 12.5" lop stock...

Oh and 870s are not equipped with shims - they're normally neutral cast from the factory.

Too many choices! Not sure if I should get my daughters a 28 gauge Remington 870 Wingmaster or 1100 (and cut down a standard stock), or 20 gauge Benelli Montefeltro (which as a compact/standard combo).

Buy wood because it's easier to add to or take away from than plastic.

The Remington 20ga synthetic youth stock comes with a LOP kit that you add as the young shooter grows. Be careful if you order from the Parts list as the stock clearly has the letters LOP, however, they no longer come with LOP kit and that runs another $7. they have no bothered to change the parts list but will not send the Kit. I bought 40 of them and when no LOP kits came with them I raised hell and got them. So ask the cubical clown to also add the LOP to your order or just let it go and when no LOP kit comes call in and raise hell and get one free. The stock is Part number is F306295 and retail is $71, you then need the stock bolt and stock bolt washer. It comes with the Super Cell recoil pad but no forend. Forend is F200031 and is $33.00. LOP kit is F402306 and is $7.

midlife - you may want to stay away from the 28ga gun. Although the felt recoil will be lower, the ammo is a bit more expensive and less common in stores, and most importantly, the shot spread is narrower, requiring the shot to be much more on target than say, a 20ga with a wider spread. So your daughters likely will have a frustrating time learning to hit anything with the 28ga, possibly losing interest before they have a chance to gain proficiency.

Go with 20 ga. Shells are easier to find and less expensive. If you buy off the shelf cost for 20 ga is much less. If you reload components for 20 ga are more readily available.

3/4 oz loads are available for 20 ga and common for 28 ga. The 28 ga loads are generally higher pressure,

The Montefeltro is very light and will kick a bit, I would try before buying.
