I have a question for veteran sporting clays shooters-have you experienced blatant cheating while competing? I am referring to someone erasing scores after the last station and turning in a card with additional Xs and Os erased all to one up someone on the squad. Any thoughts appreciated as this doesn't really encourage a new shooter to continue on shooting when one sees veteran shooters doing this.

It only makes you a worse player. Let them be. Their insecutety and lack of skills need the extra feeling of victory.. Even if it's fakeComment

I'd probably just shake my head and never shoot with them again. Sad that people feel cheating is necessary.

I dont shoot Sporting Clays competitions, just Skeet, and those have scorers who keep track of everything. However, in all my informal shoots, if someone cheats, i just ignore it and make sure to never shoot with that person againOriginally posted by KestryllThis guy is a complete and total idiot.

As with most ranges that cater to clay shooters (sporting clay, skeet, trap, etc.,), it's usually a relatively small tight knit community of folks. If someone cheats, lies, steals or does anything that's not above board, word usually gets around the clubhouse.
If none of us are making a living in the sport, than all you have at stake is really your reputation I suppose.
I've seen "generous" scoring, where someone may have marked a dead bird when it's only been dusted, but maybe the scorer saw something there that the rest of us missed. That's far different than taking an eraser to the score sheet. Haven't seen or heard about that one. Hopefully there wasn't any money involved.
PS - Must not of been the NSCA shoot from this morning at the club I shoot at. I was there and it would have been a huge bummer for the club (in terms of one of it's own possibly doing this).Last edited by kdruff2; 10-27-2013, 4:37 PM.Comment

Was there money or prizes at stake? If so, I would call them out. It would be apparent the marks had been changed due to erasure.
If there was only pride at stake, I would make sure not to shoot with those people anymore. Don't let a scumbag like that cheat you out of enjoying a new sport and from having a good time. Typically, if you shoot competition, the club should provide the score keepers so someone would have to bring an extra pencil to cheat.Comment

Believe in Karma....what goes around comes around to those that cheat. Usually with interest acrued.
And like the others....don't shoot with them again. If asked why, tell them you suspect or know they have cheated in the past.Larry Renner
