Benelli M4 brand new in box, with full length magazine tube. $2000 or $1800 with original faux tube installed.

I was under the impression that new would apply unfired outside of the factory and unmodified from the manufacturer.

In my opinion I would consider it new in box as long as it wasn't fired outside the manufacturer. To me, I don't feel like adding an accessory would make it not NIB, just a nice addition. But I can see the argument for it being only OEM equipment for NIB.

As long as less than 10 rounds shoot from it, it's NIB to me

So if a buy a new car with a set of rims that arent stock it isn't a new car? Might not be considered BNIB but definitely still considered new.

I would consider it new. There are many custom shotgun shops who will take a factory new shotgun and customize it for customers, the shotguns are considered new because they're unfired outside of factory.

Adding new, unused customized parts to the shotgun should not make it "old" or "used".

My issue with folks installing accessories (doesn't matter OEM or Aftermarket) is the manner of which they install it.

Sometimes you just do not know what they marred or switched out.

Think of it like buying a car, this will be a manufacturing issue. A car can be a lemon even when it is new from factory due to its faulty manufacturing.

If you don't have confidence with the folks installing the aftermarket parts, just buy a factory configuration gun and either do it yourself or bring it to a gunsmith you trust.

The M4 magazine extension looks pretty idiot proof to install though, I would think it should be pretty difficult to mess up something like that?

I call it a new gun with (new) an add on in terms of the extended magazine tube. Do you know which brand is the ext. mag tube?

I just recently installed a ext mag tube on my M2 and it's very straight forward. And in terms of not knowing whether parts were switched out, luckily enough, there aren't that many parts on a shotgun in general. This is especially true for the magazine tube area.

My only concern would be if the ext mag tube is from a reputable manufacturer (ex. Nordic, Briley, DMW). You do hear stories of ext. mag tubes falling off during matches or use (I've never seen it happen myself).

You can probably price out the ext mag tube and see whether the seller is charging cost, or cost + profit, to the price of the M4 w/ the add on.

PS - I added the Nordic +7 on my shotty.

Is a car "new" if the dealer puts different rims or other aftermarket or "factory options" on it after the dealership receives it?
