To all the 870 finatics

My brother has a Rem870 magnum field setup, wood furniture 28" barrel and he wants to go tactical, are 18" barrels common for the shorter mag tube? or is he better off finding a magazine tube and a 18" from a Rem tactical and just puttin them on his receiver

also, where would someone find something like that?

I checked the obvious, ebay and their site but didnt come up with anything, i know wilson combat/scattergun tech does the 870 border patrol conversions but was unsure if its just the already tactical platforms or if they do them from fields aswell, even then, i couldnt find hardly anything on their site (idk if they just dont sell them separately or what)

Also, he wants to go ghost ring sights, id imagine a gunsmith. (or someone thats good with a tap and die) could tap the receiver for it? or would a rail system with ghost rings on the top be better in the long run?

I just picked up an 870 express tactical for around $600 OTD. Includes pretty much everything he's looking for in a brand new package, XS Ghost ring sights, 18.5 barrel, breaching choke, mag extender, etc...

18 in barrels are decently easy to find for 870, and the longer mag tube is just a mag extension. GRS can be pretty costly to install, but you can get barrels with rifle sights already on them.

I believe you would be able to find all the items you'd need off midway.

oh and i forgot you'd also need to remove the dimples on the end of the express mag tube to allow proper feeding.
