    Mossberg 500 stock too long

I've got a Mossberg 500 and the composite stock it came with is too long for me. I'm considering a few different options, youth stock with a 12" length of pull, Houge overmold or may be one of the 6 position (AR style) stocks but I've been told and saw on youtube that the 6 position collapsible type will beat your face up. My 1st choice would be the 6 position stock since it's a home defense gun. Anyone have first hand experience with these?

    Thanks,

I have run a Knoxx Stock AR style on my Mossberg 500 and really like it... except for getting your thumb on the safety!

I just put the original stock back on it, and am going to try it that way again, though for me, the 13" length of pull is a little short with my hand that far back.

Never had problems with my face getting beat up, but the Knoxx stock may have been taking out a lot of the recoil.

    Good Luck.

South Bay do you have a 13" sock? If so you can pull the pad off the back and it is about 12" exact. I did this to check to see if I would like the Hogue 12" stock. I like the feel a lot better than my 13" so I ordered the Hogue 12" LOP. Good luck with your choice.

If your dead set on a PG stock, but dont want to deal with the issues AR stocks can cause, split the difference with Speedfeed's Shortened tactical stock. Basically a PG 12" LOP stock. I had one on my 590 for a while, and it was very comfortable to shoot, however with the design of the Mossberg's safety, I eventually swapped it out for a straight stock.

Had the knoxx stock for a year. I recent changed it to the hogue 12inch lop after taking a shotgun class. With the traditional stock I had a faster access to the safety compared to the pistol grip.

You can do what I am doing and wait till the Magpul comes out. The standard one is very short and you add spacers to lengthen it. It should be out by December.

I had a 12 inch LOP Hogue on my 500. The LOP is nice and allows you to square up your stance but my thumb would hit my nose because of how close it places your grip to your face. You can alleviate this by riding your thumb on top of the grip rather than wrapping around it. Another choice is the Choate stock and Magpul has one for the 500 as well with adjustable LOP.

Here's what I put on my Moss 500:

I really like this one because it has the adjustable LOP, a cheek riser, and a nice soft recoil pad. Plus it's in a traditional stock form instead of a pistol grip, which is an important consideration with the Moss500's tang safety.

I used the stock when taking a shotgun class (the one with Don at Triple-B), and the shotgun fit me perfectly.

The standard stock on the new Moss 500's is also too long for me. Plus its comb was too low for me and I had to scrunch myself down to the proper sight picture. Not good. This ATI stock is inexpensive and effective. Can't ask for much more.

Hogue 12" LOP is perfect for me - the standard stock was too long.

Never understood what mossberg guys are doing with long LOP. Short stock can be fixed by adding spacers but b
