    Saiga 12?

Anyone know where in the San Diego area i can get a saiga 12? The shops i've asked at tell me that there is nothing legal about them, and they won't touch them.

The Saiga-12 needs to be modified to be CA legal before they are imported into CA.

So, not only do you have to find a CA 01-FFL dealer willing to DROS a Saiga-12 to you, you also have to find someone outside of CA willing to modify it prior to shipping it to the CA 01-FFL dealer.

Well, i'm kind of new to Cali. Before moveing out here, i had a pretty successfull small gun shop in AZ. What changes need to be made to the Saiga 12? I modified my brothers. (Who lives in TX) It was the biggest pain to drill the reciever to move the trigger assy, so he could have a pistol grip and use AK furniture. The old gunsmith that talked me through it wasn't kidding when he said " that old reciever is as hard as a woodpecker's beak." I broke 6 drill bits doing the job.

it needs a magazine lock installed before it can be shipped to CA. Shouldnt be too hard of a task, but you'd need someone out of CA to do the job.

Due to Izmash stopping production of the Saiga-12 for "retooling" and an unknown ETA of when they'll start again.

Current price in the USA for an unmodified Saiga-12 is around $500-700.

For importation into CA, the RAA Saiga-12 needs to have a magazine lock installed.

The days of the $400 S-12 are long gone. Consider yourself lucky to even find a bone-stock one these days under $700.00 (crazy laws of supply and demand-no new supplies and a HUGE demand)

From what I've seen, conversions run around $350.00 plus parts.

In a few weeks, who knows?

The only problem with owning a rare gun these days is that everyone is pinching their pennies. I should have bought 1k worth of gas in January instead of two S12s.

...Well maybe not... I'll ride my bike.

Nope. There was one the sold in the FS section for ~$650 a few months ago IIRC. But that was before they really got scarce.

The going rate for an unconverted, bare bones S-12 on GunBroker these days is $800-$850.

Converted with the FCG moved forward and pistol grip they start around $1100-$1200.

Start from there, find an intermediary FFL to do the necessary mods to make it CA legal and add 2X shipping (once to the FFL out of state to do the mods, then to have them ship to your FFL).

Don't forget to figure in the unobtainium factor!

I was suprised the one for $650 lasted as long as it did.
