Wax or glue flaking from shotshell?

I picked up 2 boxes of Winchester 3-inch 00 buckshot from Walmart today, upon inspection, I noticed that the shells have some kind of dried wax or glue flaking off from the front of the shell.

Its almost like they used too much glue or wax to seal the front of the shell and the excess are coming off.

Is this normal? Should I clean those off with a brush before loading or do they not matter because they'll get blown out of the barrel anyway?

Nothing to worry about, possibly a wax sealant for moisture at the crimp, or some plastic type material they use as a buffer between the shot escaping out of the crimp. Modern shot shells are are ultra reliable and virtually foolproof. I do not believe I have ever experienced a failure or what appeared to be a malfunction with modern plastic shotgun shells duck hunting and shooting over the last 20 years. It can happen, but highly unlikely, and if your gun is a modern design it is manufactured to handle it.

Thanks, I guess I should wipe them off before loading into the shotgun.

I have a lot of shells like that and they all have gone bang with no issues. You are good to go.
