    Slug recommendations for 870?

I just bought my first slug gun.. Its a remington 870 Express model 25090 (or sometimes just called a 5090). It has a 23" rifled barrel.

As I understand, some shotguns like certain kinds of ammo better than others.

Can anyone tell me if there is a recommended ammo that shoots well through a stock rifled 870 like I have?

Umm.. I'm deer hunting.. not home defense... (unless one might consider the deer crapping all over my lawn a home invasion)

You may have to try them all on the patterning broad/plate, at the longest range you will be shooting.

My gun is a standard 12ga Remington. No mods. Off the shelf. Shouldn't there be a 12ga slug out there that is known to shoot straight out of that barrel? Or am I to understand that each barrel that is manufactured for the same gun by the same place is so different that you have to experiment with ten different ammo brands to find the right one????

dduples hexolit is non lead for condor areas . Remington has a copper sabot for same areas. You need to get some lead slugs to try out if in lead ok area. I use ddupleks hexolit in my smoothbore shotgun. Lead slugs are a lot cheaper than non lead.

Any Quality Sabot will perform fine. Shotguns, even fully rifled barrls are not rifles and not as finicky. Remington has a $5 rebate on their sabot ammo right now so there is a good reason to try them first.

Also, the best value I have found in a very good sabot is Hasting. If comes, or did come, in a yellow and cost far less then the other stuff out there.

I'd suggest any of the low-recoil slugs.

Winchester makes them as does Fiocchi, Federal & B&P.

The Fiocchi has a very good reputation.

You can get some flat nosed Monlit28's at Sportsman's Guide. The Monolits are very good for hunting.20 gauge Dupo20's atwww.rrarms.com. It seems Ddupleks are hard to get now in the U.S. I got 10 boxes of the Dupo28's last year. I shot one and have the rest in my closet.

Come on folks... enough with all the exotic ammo.. I just need to know what shoots straight out of a stock 870.. Everyone says different guns like different ammo.. Does this mean EVERY gun is different like a fingerprint, or do all models like specific ammo for that particular model number?

I shoot the Hornady SST out of my rifled slug barrel and they are accurate; I'm confident enough to take deer out to 150 yards with them.

Bingo....Most go with good enough and call it good.....or make a hobby out of finding the perfect one.
