    Ammo Shopping for Clays

Does anyone have a favorite ammo? Do you just look for best price for size/gauge/weight etc you want, or do you prefer some brands over others.

Seems that with 22 lr, everyone has an opinion and favorite (with CCI mini mags topping the list).

I'm wondering if their is a 12 gauge version of the Mini Mag for clay shooting?

      Winchester AA or B&P

1 oz load of 7.5 at ~1200 fps

Why 1 oz and not 1 and 1/8 oz?

No need, less recoil, better pattern.

            I second the AA.
Right now, I'm going for whatever is available at Walmart. federal target/dove loads are cheaper and I use them too.

My favorite ammo is any 12GA 1 or 1 1/8 oz of 7.5 or 8 shells that are on sale. So not picky, just price sensitive. Once you start shooting more, a dollar here and there really starts to add up.

The reason guys prefer one type of 22lr to another is the way it performs or fails to perform in their guns.

Same can be said for shotguns,

                Most pumps will cycle anything.

For clays I like the federal bulk pack in 7 or 8's. Cheap and works in all my guns. Usually buy them for $26.00 for 100 at Wallyworld.

It's when you start to play with semi auto shotguns when ammo choice may affect you.

Since you say you are a beginner, buy the cheapest Walmart ammo you can find. During the recent shortage, I bought every Walmart brand 20 gauge and shot sizes (7.5, 8, 9) as well as the more expensive Winchester AA and Remington STS and couldn't tell the difference.

Cheap birdshot. You aren't competing I take it so just buy the cheapest.

Back when it was easy to get I always bought Win. AA in 12,20, & 28 ga, I liked how they shot but for me better still how they reload. My three skeet guns are O/U's very easy on shells. My two sporting clays guns are semi autos as is my trap gun, these reloads never gave me a problem.
But today I'd buy what's available and if I intended to reload stay with one brand regardless of what brand it is.

What type of clays - trap, skeet, sporting? Each is different and each will have loads that are better than others. If you are just fooling around the cheapest #8 or 7-1/2 will do.

I load my own, 3/4oz, #8 shot, traveling at 1100 FPS, i load them in AA or Remington gold hulls. Thats a skeet load though, it doesnt have the power or pattern well enough to break trap or longer sporting clays loads

I usually buy the cheap stuff at walmart

of the cheap stuff, I like the federal best.

                            #7, 7.7 or 8 shot

running a side by side, so it isnt picky

Clays for the sake of clays or clays to help knock the rust while prepping for a hunt? Either way I always shoot better with cheaper ammo!
