    Left Eye Dominant

If I am left eye dominant should I teach myself to shoot off my left shoulder? I have only shot trap twice. First two times out I kept my left eye closed like shooting a rifle.

If you are right handed and left eye dominant you can get a custom stock made - they look rather strange. You can put a dot over your left lense and this may help get your right eye dominant. I would say shoot one-eyed.

I'm left eye dominant and I learned to shoot both eyes open and you can too. Dot on left lens helps.

Dot, wink, or learn to shoot left-handed. Don't waste your money on a crossover stock.

I am left eye dominant. I have tried all kind of solutions, ended up what works best for me was to eventually train myself use my right eye.

I bought one of those sunglasses that allow me to easily switch the lens (e.g. Oakley Fast Jacket.) I put a clear lens on my right eye, and a medium-color lens (e.g. grey) on my left eye.

This way, when I aimed at the sight/scope/target, my brain would naturally switch to my right eye (Sorry I didn't kow the science behind it, but it did work for me.) Yet, I could still see things and walk around in the range normally.

I also tried to wear this clear/color sunglasses at home, to let my brain/eye get used to it.

After a few short weeks, I started to become natural to use my right eye. Now I have no problem using my right eye for shooting.

Just want to share my experience, hope it helps...

I am also in the same boat. When I'm feeling on my game my eye problem doesn't even register and I shot well enough to be happy. When I'm feeling a little off I put a very small piece of scotch tape on the top portion of my sun glasses on my left eye and all is well.

In the field hunting for some reason this issue doesn't come into play or at least hasn't yet. Only with clay targets does it bother me.

It is easier to teach your left hand how to shoot than to reprogram the sides of your brain. Every one has different degrees of handedness and eye dominance. See what works for you

Well...So many ideas. I'm gonna take the plunge and shoot off my left shoulder. I does seem best in the long run, even if I suck for a while.

Learn to shoot lefty. It never hurts to at least be competent using your non dominant side.

Cheap fix, scotch tape small piece over left lens of shooting glasses. Shoot both eyes open, this not only worked for me, I'm no longer left eye dominate.
Just remove tape when done shooting. I grew up very right handed made zero sense for me to try and change that.

I'm left eye right handed. I just always shot rifle lefty. it just felt natural to me. Pistol is a little strange I shoot right handed but use my left eye to aim. I learned to shoot right handed in the army when I was a machine gunner. it wasn't too difficult, but never felt at home.

Take a shotgun class OR personal training in the left hand operation of your shotgun. If you don't like it then either close your left eye (or cover your dominate eye with scoth tape, making it fuzzy but light still enters) thus making your non-dominate eye dominate by default.
When I shoot righthanded....I simply close my dominate left eye and have at it.

Either train to shoot left handed or learn to use your right. I am left eye dominant, right hand shooter and nearsighted in my right eye a tad via astigmatism... Shotgun shooting isn't so bad but trying to shoot groups with rifles on irons gives me a headache...

I'm a lefty and left eye dominate but shoot right handed. Shot bolt actions as a kid and just shot like everyone else - right handed. Can't shoot left handed after all these years so I use the dot on the trap and skeet fields. Squinting is very tiring. Another reason I resisted changing is that almost all instructors shoot right handed so that is their expertise. Yeah, they say do it this way left handed but since they don't shoot left handed, how much do they really know and understand about shooting left handed. I learned that lesson in other sports so this time I decided to just continue shooting right handed.
