    Kel tec KSG

    Hey guys,

What do you guys think of it? I ve read mixed reviews about its reliability?

Will these still be available next year in 2014 if SB374 passes?

Not a huge fan, as ejecting shells tore my wrist up pretty good. I wouldn't get one unless you could find it for msrp. No way it is worth panic prices IMHO.

              The text says:
              (5) A semiautomatic shotgun that has both of the following:
              (A) A folding or telescoping stock.
              (B) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon, thumbhole stock, or vertical handgrip.
              (6) A semiautomatic shotgun that has the ability to accept a detachable magazine.
              (7) Any shotgun with a revolving cylinder.

              A KSG isn't semi-automatic, so it shouldn't.

Just bought mine in the marketplace here on Calguns for $1350 from username NorthJersey (Ben) nice guy and good to deal with shipped fast and communicated well. I have seen them on here lately at $2000 but have never seen one under what I paid. He still has one for $1400 shipped.

MSRP off the KSG website is $990. It was around $800 months ago. Average prices on gunbroker are from $1200 to $2000. I got mine for $1300.

As far as reliability, it does exactly what it's supposed to do. No FTE, no FTF or other issues. Search the video on YouTube for prison guards doing shock tests on the KSG. They heap doses of abuse on it, drop it from the 2nd floor, blow it up, etc. and it still shoots.

Features I like best about it:
                    1) Shell capacity! Unmatched (and still legal).
                    2) Size. It's 26" overall length compared to my Benelli M4 overall length of 40"...the perfect HD set up for CQB.
                    3) Weight. 6.9lbs empty and 8.5lbs loaded. Practical and not unwieldy for a 1 point sling set up.
                    4) Versatile. For example, you can load 00 buck or bird shot in one tube for CQ, and load slugs in the other for engaging longer distance.
                    5) Ejects downwards. For lefties, the ejected shell doesn't get in your face. The downward ejection does hit me sometimes, but I don't even notice it.

                    What I don't like:
                    - The UTS has the capability of switching back and forth between tubes if you leave the selector switch in the middle. On the KSG, you have to manually switch to the other tube so it's too bad Keltec didn't have the same feature.
                    - Recoil on slugs is terrible. Lower weight and smaller length will always translate to more impact on your shoulder though. I could probably throw on a shoulder pad it would take care of all that.
                    - Vibration on the rails. I think because it's raised, there may be more points of vibration. I was trying to zero my red dot shooting slugs and when I had it zeroed, my point of impact started shifting. I haven't heard of anyone else having this problem so it could just be my EoTech. Might just slap on a Burris FastFire instead.
                    - There's a pinch point on the handle when racking it. Keltec should've put a backstop there, but most people just throw on some type of forward grip to resolve that. I'd recommend getting a grip with a metal mount - if you get plastic, it'll eventually snap when you rack it (like mine did, but it was a cheap POS).

Last thoughts - all the performance issues people keep griping about were resolved with the first generation of KSG's. What's out in the market is a very good (not perfect), very reliable HD shotgun. Completely inappropriate for clay/skeet/trap, but extremely fun to shoot otherwise.

I'll second the post above. I bought a generation 2 ksg about a year ago and haven't had any issues. I put a magpul angled grip on the front to assist loading (really don't need it but it makes it easier).

This shotgun is completely different from a standard pump. People who are complaining about feed issues or the ejection are basing their claims on a few quick shots off a borrowed gun. Their issues are almost always user error because they didnt take time to learn the gun. You have to rack the slide all the way back (theres an extra audible click) for the shell to drop out of the tube. You also have to hold your trigger arm slightly out to avoid the downward ejection (nothing any bullpup user isnt comfortable with).

I love shooting mine. I always have a huge cheesy grin on my face after unloading 14 rounds of 00 on some poor 15 - 25 yd targets.

Let the other beta testers in the country buy up the early units. I'll wait for the third gen, just like the SU-16A..B..C(A).
