Carlson's barrel for 870 problem

Has anyone had experience with Carlson's replacement barrels for the 870? I recently put in a 26" and it won't feed shells. There is a rear shelf that's catching the rim of the brass and jamming the action. Truly frustrating and combine that with a crooked front fiberoptic bead has left a very poor impression of Carlson products. I thought they were one of the more reputable companies, but maybe that only applies to their chokes?

If anyone has a Carlson's barrel, can you see if the rear looks like this?



And crooked bead. How can I tell if it's screwed on without damaging the fiberoptic tube?

I don't have one, but had similar bad experiences with a similar situation.

Of all things, Mossberg makes a good Remington barrel replacement. Finish may not be great, but fitment is on.

Mr. Corson is a stand up dude. Whatever's wrong, you should contact him first.


If you want to fix the issues yourself, then:

As for the sight, you have the barrel off the receiver, so look down the muzzle end and see if there's the other side of a threaded hole for mounting the sight just less than half-inch down the muzzle. If so, then your sight is threaded and may just need a tweak to align. Best bet if threaded, remove it entirely, apply a drop of Loctite, then reinstall.

As for the receiver end of the barrel just aft of the chamber, all you have to do is mimic the chamfer of the Rem barrel with a half-round file then some fine sandpaper. Might add some cold blue when you're finished.

It is Carlson's.

Can't see hole in the barrel since it's a vent rib with removable choke. Whether the bead is pressed or screwed down, it doesn't protrude into the choke threads.

Chamfering the edge with a file is fine, but that "scallop" feature would be a challenge to make. The barrel is chrome-lined and not sure what would happen in terms of corrosion if I file away metal.

I emailed their customer service on a Tuesday and I'm still waiting to hear back.
