Remington 1148 broken trigger

Hello Fellas!

A friend of mine owns an old Remington 1148 which has always worked fine until recently. For some reason when the hammer is locked back the trigger will not release it to release forward under tension. We pulled the trigger assembly out and and when we hold the trigger back we can flip the hammer forward, but it doesn't feel as though it's under any tension whatsoever.

What can we do to fix this? It's a sweet shotgun and in pretty good shape, but this is stumping me. Is it possibly a broken or missing spring, or what?

Look at a parts schematic, see if you are missing parts. You already have the assembly out and in your hands, you should be able to verify if the hammer is under spring tension. If you can't, then let your gunsmith do the work.

~ Replace the broken parts.
~ Replace the missing parts.
~ Clean the parts.
~ Assemble correctly.

Wanted to bump this thread. We still have the shotgun disassembled and we can't tell if there are any broken or missing pieces. The schematics I found are old and grainy. I don't know of a competent gunsmith in NC San Diego. Is anyone locally familiar with these shotguns?

Thanks TRAPS. I'll check when I get home. That's a good schematic.

I figure we'll give it one more college try, but I found a bunch of these assemblies on eBay. If I can't fix it, I'll just replace the whole assembly.
