Stock for my Mossberg 500.

I have a bit of an issue. I'm a taller guy (79 inch wingspan) and my right wrist doesn't bend correctly.

The stock that came with my mossberg500 just... doesn't work.

For home, I bought a Specops NRS telescoping stock. With that, I can use the pistol grip and hold the shotgun effectively, and pain free. Unfortunately, they don't smile on that kind of thing for sporting clays.

I'm not finding a terrific amount of options. Has anyone done a custom stock? Was it extremely expensive?

Or anyone with a similar ailment that found a workaround?

Since I'm in the bay area, getting together looks unlikely.

So I'll give a couple of things to try. As to your question about a custom stock for your 500......it will cost well over the price of the gun...2 to 3x will not be surprising

1) Looks like you can use some buttstock spacers to lengthen your LOP to fit your tall body

2) And this is a pure guess, as I don't know how your wrist is injured.

Try shooting the standard stock with your right elbow raised level with your shoulder...with the elbow up the wrist will be straight and in line with the barrel.....it will also be the least recoil pounding.

3) add weight to the stock by putting weight in the hollow part of the stock...
500's have to be the worse in recoil that I have shot.

4) Consider a thumb hole stock

Thanks. It's a little better elevated. Basically i can put my thumb on the back and index finger on the trigger. (like I'm pinching it)


Though it looks like, if I could extend the stock about 5", that might work.

Thumbhole stock looks like an interesting solution too.


Maybe after I go down to the sporting clays place a few times I can talk them into letting me use my knoxx stock...

This fall Magpul is releasing their shotgun stock for the 500. I shot the 870 version and as weird looking as it is it shoots and feels better than any other I've tried. And it's adjustable for length of pull.

I'll be getting one for my 500 when they release it. I also have long wingspan and know how much nicer a proper fitting stock is.

I have an Akita stock because I wanted to be able to shorten the stock when it's pulling HD duty. It's nice, but adds quite a bit of weight compared to the standard plastic stock.

The grip angle in the Magpul stock positions your trigger hand low so at no time is your thumb going to pop you in the nose even if the stock is left short. The design is good IMO. I think they are UGLY but still plan to get one.

They are scheduled to hit the shelves in November. I'm wondering if I need both stocks in which case I'd get the Flat Dark Earth or if just the butt stock then it's going to be black. If they had it in ATACS camo that would be cool!
