    register a shotgun

hello, thinking about trying out duck hunting. I have a mossberg 500A that I bought off a friend back in 1989 when you were able to just walk in to big 5 and go home with it that day. Its my home defense gun so I never worried about it because it never leaves the house. So now if I buy a longer barrel and use it to hunt do I need to register it, and how hard will that be, I lost the receipt that the guy gave my.
    thanks, Sendo

You don't need to register it. Just keep it cased to and from your car in city limits.

Nope, no registration. You can change the barrel to any length you want as long as it's not below 18".

The 2014 registration law hasn't taken affect yet, and once it does it still won't affect you since it only applies to new purchases and transfers. Anything purchased before January 1st, 2014 is not registered at the time of sale.

I'm not a duck or anything else hunter, but I'm 99% sure there's a shell-limit and the Fish-n-Game rangers can and do check to see that you can't fit more than:
            1 in the chamber
            2 in the tube
If they can squeeze a 3rd shell in the tube/magazine you are looking at some beefy fines.

If this is NOT true, please somebody correct me

Yup, Mossberg should have sold you a wooden dowel that you would insert into the magazine tube when you replace that barrel to bring you into compliance with 2+1.. don't have the dowel any more? Likely can contact Mossberg and get a new one or just go to the hardware store and get one to cut down to what you need.. Simple..

Or you can use a shiskabob skewer to make your own dowel

A wooden pencil works good in a pinch too. Just cut to size.
