    which game first

I am a pistol bullseye shooter and am interested in shotgun sports. Between Skeet and trap which would be easier to begin with? Is it advisable to try both at the same time? Is it preferable to have a dedicated shotgun for each discipline?

    Thank You

Trap is easiest to start on. The targets are all going away from you at the same angles.

Skeet is shot with left and right throwers at both high and low angles.

Shoot skeet first. You'll learn about lead and keeping the gun moving. Trap is like shooting a rifle, you won't learn anything.

Generally trap is shot with longer barrels and tighter chokes because all of the targets are going away at right, center and left angles and the shots will be longer, especially as you start moving back from the 16 yard line. The distances are longer because the yardage lines are measured from the thrower so you have to pick up the bird coming out of the house and then hit it going away. Once you get to the 24 yard line all your shots will be longer than 40 yards.

Skeet is generally shot with shorter faster handling shoguns and more open chokes. The targets are more crossing type targets at higher speed, shot at closer ranges.

IMHO Skeet first, I thought it looked too hard and started on trap. It's actually more fun and easier to shoot skeet as you have to learn to shoot fast or the targets are gone. With trap many target shooters think they have forever to get a good sight picture etc and fire way too late-Shotgun shooting is more of a reflex thing.
