    first new shotgun

looking to grab my first shotgun. Was thinking of an 870 express . Found one for $319 with wood furniture. is that a good price? also looking to use it for some clay pigeon shooting maybe hunting a turkey or other type birdies. any advice to help this pistol guy out. also what chokes should i look into.

Good choice, just be mindful that the Express will need to be "broken in". Unlike the older Wingmasters and Police that have impeccable reliability. Old Green hasn't been mindful of its quality lately.

Failure to eject, some police and most Express models have this issue with the chamber not being polished enough.

The finish also gives me cataracts if you put it side by side to a Benelli M4 or the like.

Also forgot to mention Extractor issues,

This issues will usually need intervention before the owner gets really upset. Usually a used 870 will be best.

Don't forget there is a $30 rebate if purchased between August 1st and December 31st. If the Dealer did not give you a coupon you can down load it from the Remington site.

You cant go wrong with an 870 for an all around gun, though i bought a mossberg 500 personally. It has never let me down.

The biggest complaint I had with my 870 Express "tactical" is that the finish was rust easily. So I painted it.

As for the extractor, at least on mine, it was not the MIM one. I bought a new non-MIM one, compared the two, and they were exactly the same.

                      Well according to this comparison:

                      My chamber was also fine.

I would stay away from any recently manufactured 870s, unless you happened to find a Wingmaster.

If you're interested in using the shotty for both hunting and HD, look into the Big 5 Mossberg 500 combo, which comes with 18" and 28" barrels. They go on sale every few weeks.
