i was looking at photos of what was billed as a pre-ww2 a5. the photos showed both sides of the receiver having no manufacturer's marks or stamps - no 'browning,' nothing. no engraving or decoration. the receiver did have a serial number stamped underneath, in front of the loading port (201xxx). the barrel photos were not clear enough to distinguish marks.
one of the screws on the left side of the receiver had numbers marked on it - again, not clear enough to read. the receiver had been reblued. it did have a magazine cutoff, and the fore-and-aft-style safety through the front trigger guard. the stock was the round knob type, but of course it might have been added later.
does this all add up to a genuine browning? i know this design was licensed by many other manufacturers.
thanks.
