    Kudos for Mossberg Customer Service

I bought a Mossberg 500 field / security combo with he two barrels and walnut stock about a year ago and love it. Have put about 1200 rounds through, mostly shooting trap and sporting clays. It is also my primary home defense weapon with the short barrel attached. I am very pleased with the way it handles, shoots and looks.

I have only had one problem with it. The safety button broke right down the middle, right behind the rivet or screw that holds it on. Gun continued to function fine after that for hundreds of rounds, but then it started slipping into safety on the first shot, which made double trap impossible and home defense sort of iffy. I called Mossberg customer services, was told it would be covered under warranty and to send it in, but was warned that turnaround time would be 3-6 weeks.

So I shipped it, and emailed them the day after it arrived to confirm receipt and ask when it would be ready. I got a reply the same day telling me it had been repaired and already shipped for return to me. I couldn't believe it! Service far above what had been promised.

When I sent it, I noted that I thought the plastic safety button with the metal screw through wtas a design flaw which had caused the failure. I had read somewhere that the Mossberg 590 had a metal safety button, so I asked them to use this on my replacement as a courtesy upgrade. They did. They also cleaned the gun, included a new owner's manual and cable lock, packed it very nicely and shipped it Fed Ex. It was like getting a new gun back, all at no charge.

Overall, just a great customer service experience, above and beyond the call of duty in my book.

I know there are lot of other good shotguns out there, but I think I may be a Mossberg fanatic for life!

I bought a little Mossberg 500 .410 at Walmart a long time ago, for the princely sum of $211 OTD.

About 5-6 years later, it developed an issue where the first round might or might not fire. That made hunting rabbits kind of hard, so I tossed it in the closet and started using a different shotgun with the intent of taking the .410 apart one day to sort out the issue.

A couple of years went by, and one day I remembered to pull it out and have a look. I could not see anything wrong, so I called Mossberg Tech Support hoping that they would give me a "best guess" and sell me some parts.

After I explained the issue and what I was after, the rep I was talking to asked me for the serial number of the gun. I told him, he looked it up and said - "it's still under warranty, send it in". I did, and a few weeks later got my shotgun back with completely new innards - bolt, trigger group... everything but the receiver and barrel/furniture.

I was astounded - a $200 shotgun with a 10 year warranty. It has been flawless ever since, and has become one of my favorite field guns.

Wow, great story Big Boss, and great service for the money. I paid a bit more for my 12 gauge Mossberg 500 since I only bought it last year, but it still seems like a great value to me: $350, includes a field barrel with vent rib, ported and interchangeable chokes, security barrel, pistol grip option, and a really beautiful checkered walnut stock. It just seems like a lot of gun for the money. Throw in the ten year warranty and its hard to see how they make any money, but apparently they do make lots of it.
