    Need Some Advice

I am looking at getting a shotgun. The downside is I am on an extremely fixed income right now but soon will have about $300 to spend. I know the old adage you get what you pay for, but are there any good low end shotguns out there? This will be mainly home defense and for putting holes in paper.

A new Mossberg 500 combo from Big 5. Or haunt gun shows and consignment racks for store branded (Sears, Penny's) guns. They are usually in the $100 - $20 range for a decent pump.
Always looking for vintage Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles. Looking to sell? Know of one for sale? Drop me a line!

What about the Tristar, Savage, or RIA shotguns?

If you are after a pump, Mossberg, or a good used 870.

This! And the norinco hawk 981/982 is another good 870 clone for around $220 range.

              all that's been said here.
If you do want to go new, another vote for the big 5 mossberg special.
I picked up my big 5 special for $322 ($377 out the door after various fees and taxes.)
It's like having 2 guns for one, one for home defense (the 18.5 inch barrel) and one for fun at the range or hunting (the 24" with a nice choke.)

Another vote for the Mossberg. I own a couple of them, and they are good SG's.

Mossberg 500 or maverick 88..I think mavericks have some of the same parts as the Mossberg 500 and they are owned by Mossberg as well.

Look for the Hawk 982 they run around $199. If you have sport's authority in your area check them too. They have some cheap 18" shotties.
