    Stevens 941 410 shotgun

I was cleaning out some stuff at my parents old barn and found a very nice 410 Stevens break action shotgun.

I have never heard of these before. Can someone enlighten me ?

    Markings:

Right side - Model 940 No serial numbers of any kind

Left side - STEVENS Savage Arms Corporation
    Chicopee Falls MASS

On rear of barrel - Selected Forged Steel
    Proof test 410 Gauge
    3" Chamber

Is it worth anything ? Should I sell it or keep it ?

    Thanks !

A gun like this is worth having as a shooter, but IMO there is no collector's value. If it is in really super shape you should be able to get $175-200 for it since .410s are popular with many people (I'm one). But it is an inexpensive version of the Stevens 94--already an inexpensive gun, probably made in the 1960s before GCA '68 required all firearms to have a serial number.

A great farmer's gun, probably why it was there--for snakes, rats, hawks, crows, various "things that go bump in the night" and eat your chickens and barn cats. No better rabbit killer in the world, either.

And with a load of 000 buckshot in a 3" shell, or a .410 slug, it isn't something you'd want to be shot with, either.

I'd keep it, but then I like single-shot, break-action .410s; I've had one and hunted small game with it since 1951. Still have that one, a Winchester 37, and also a .410 barrel for my G2 Contender Carbine.

Thanks Mike ! I appreciate the info on the gun.

I'm more of a AK/AR type so I'll probably put it up for sale on the classifieds here. My son is too big for it. He's in the Army and plays with the good stuff AND doesn't have to pay for the ammo !
