    O/U Shotgun Recommendations

Want to spend under $1k for a 20 gauge over and under, new or used. Primarily pheasant/quail/dove? Any recommendations?

    Thanks

Buy the gun that fits you best. Nope not that one you've been looking at online, the one that fits you best. Seriously.

I wish I got one of these instead of my Baikal.

Stoeger is an excellent buy for the money, $400-$600. Remington 1100 in the $1100 range is a good buy if you want a semi automatic. for $1,000-$1500 you can get a used Browning or Beretta over & under... Excellent guns... Browning is making the old A5 semi automatic for around $1200 new. The new ones are made in Portugal.

CZ is probably the best buy for the money under $1k, but that doesn't matter because OP doesn't know how anything fits him yet. Go visit a store, shoulder some guns and trust me you'll realize all the preliminary research on the internet is useless - you just have to find what fits...

I agree. CZ canvasback or Redhead should be more than adequate. Their OxU comes with all 5 chokes as well.

Best advice EVER! My husband bought me an expensive .20 gauge. The shotgun is beautiful, shoots beautifully and I can't hit anything. I hated the thought of damaging an old superposed. So, I took out my $900.00 Beretta 3901, changed the comb, cast and drop to try and get a better fit and I shot the heck out of it.

Get what fits and if it doesn't fit, spend less and get a fitting.

I don't expect everything handed to me. Just set it down anywhere. Unknown

You might be able to find a used Ruger Red Label in that price range. Very nice guns.

I'll be the guy that says, "$1,000 is a bit too low". Unless you're not going to be shooting once or more a week.

This is vitally important, any ranges in your area that offers rentals? Are you close to Triple B in El Monte?

This is about the bottom of where I would put my money in an O/U. Otherwise save for a Beretta or Browning. Used is sometimes an OK venture, but don't get one too old and without removable chokes.

I bought a used citori at a local shop for 1000. Was 28 gauge though an no adjustable chokes. They had a superposed there that was 12 ga for another 1000.I really wanted that too but was buying the gun for the wife, and was tapped out. My point is look around. BTW where are you located. I might be able to give you some tips on where to look.

You have to be aware when buying a used shot gun... I have see some nice Beretta's and Browning O/U's and they have fixed chokes meaning they are permanent and can not be changed. Also what are you going to be shooting? Barrel length is an issue. I saw a nice Browning Citori with 26" barrels. That would be a nice gun for Skeet but not so good for Trap.

                          Everyone,

Thank you you for your advise and recommendations. I found a really nice conditioned Browning Superposed 20 gauge Lightning 28" barrel and I bought it. It has fixed chokes Full and Modified, but since it will be a bird gun, it will be fine. Yes, I bought it.
