Someone talk some sense into me

I'm starting to consider selling my converted Saiga-12. I did the conversion myself, it functions flawlessly, the hammer and trigger were profiled and polished by Cobra 76 on the Saiga forum, and it has a PRK mag lock. Still runs the factory gas plug, I've ever had any issues when using the correct gas setting, and depending on the brand, it will sometimes cycle birdshot on the lowest gas setting. I have a few 10 rd stick mags and a 20 rd drum rebuild kit as well as the factory 5 rd mag. I finally admitted to myself that its a fun range toy that doesn't get much use, and with the mag lock its not practical for self defense.

It took me months to figure out where and how to get this gun legally into CA at a decent price back when I bought it 3-4 years ago, and then took months to connect with my FFL to get it into my possession, and then the work put into it converting it, it's hard to admit to myself that it could be money better used elsewhere - like a nice potting scope and a Kimber 82 from the CMP.

That having been said, with it likely to be considered an AW if current legislation passes, and with me liking to own things that the government doesn't like me having, so I'm conflicted.

In any event, looking for validation from the CG community to either keep it or sell it. What say you?

You should change the question as it reads keep or sell. Yes means do one or the other which is what you are trying to find out. I vote keep, but then I have a hard time selling cool guns.

why get rid of it when you worked so hard to get it here in the first place? Dont worry, when Ted Nuget wins presidency all your guns will be legal.

Honestly because it doesn't get used very often. Moneys tight, there are things I would like to get before registration starts, I'm getting more involved in match shooting and need a decent spotting scope, and I know how much I can get for it, which when compared to what I have into it, works out to a pretty nice profit. But like missiondude said, its a "cool" gun, when it does come out, it gets attention. Hence the confliction.

Put up it for sale and let the market decide. Price it so you won't look back at all, and if you get an offer you can't say no to, well win win.

If it doesn't sell, then you've got something that you probably can't buy in CA come Jan 1st (assuming all the anti-gun bills pass the state legislature).

My two cents but good luck either way.

There have been only 2 guns that I have not regretted selling at some point
There are 10 or 15 I have kicked myself over.
If you like it at all, keep it.

You can buy a spotting scope anytime in the future so forget the spotting scope for now!

Back to your Saiga. I fully understand your logic and I think you just need some support in your decision to sell it. I'll be that support....sell it and move on!

I feel the same in regards to registration and the incoming ban on anything the gov doesn't want me to have.

If they pass the bill that turns my AR into an AW, at this point I'll comply with registering it but it won't be until the last possible moment. I feel it's the only long gun that's worth keeping that falls within the proposed AW definition.

We are in a "catch 22" because if you sell your unregistered gun before Dec. 31 and if the incoming AW ban gets tossed then what ever you buy would become registered. Does that makes sense?

I always sell my unused guns. I hate seeing guns sit so I sell them just so they go to a good home.

Since it sits and you cold use the money - sell it. Let someone else enjoy it.
