i just dros a M4 in desert camo today at j&j armory. i know nothing about shotguns. what are some good rounds for her (brand, size,etc?). i want to try a few diff types but dont know what to get at all.

The cheapest "plinking" ammo will be: "Game and Target Load" 12 Gauge, 2 3/4", 1 oz shot 7 1/2, 8 or 9 shot. I just stocked up on some Estate for $5.50 a box of 25. Also got some 2 3/4" 00 buck for 4 bucks a 5 pack.

Pretty much any cheap 2 3/4" 12 guage feeds/cycles/shoots just fine in my M4.
So feel free to buy whatever cheap ammo you want to plink.
For home defense any slug/buckshot combo should also work fine (be sure to test fire some to make sure!).
I've even used "low recoil" shells and the M4 still ate it up no problem.

The cheap Winchester Super Sport from Wal Mart has lots of bad crimps. It's not something I would buy. The cheap Federal stuff they sell is much better quality.

Stay away from those reduced recoil shells. Those don't work at times on my semi auto shotgun.

my m4 works on pretty much anything i have fed it including an ALS 430gr baton. never seen a semi cycle on less lethal stuff b4.

Try 3" magnum 00-00 (steel). Those are a real joy.

Ok, just kidding, but take the advice of avoiding the low recoil stuff. I have an M4 and have not shot the LR stuff with it, but I have friends who have and said they had problems with cycling every so often.

Once you get used to it, try slugs.

As to the WM value packs, can't go wrong there. Just remember this is a choked self defense shotty.

My M1014 will cycle Federal Tactical Low Recoil 00Buck all day long. It's a non-issue with the M4 design.

Then be happy about it, because others have. The M4 does not have the usual Benelli gas system, it is spring operated, but being a semi-auto, it has it's moments as I have seen first hand. If it was gas operated, it would be a definite concern using low recoil.

Any chance the Federal Tactical LR 00 Buck is not LR in the traditional sense of the LR load?

+1 for what randy said, I think some of the issues maybe more linked to some of the benellis having the 4 port low recoil barrels and others having the 2 port barrels. for some reason the low recoil barrel has been having more issues. Cseabass has alot more info on this
