    Truck gun

I have a ratty old double barrel that Id like to cut down so it fits inside a compartment of my truck. Im not 100% sure on all the legalities, but my objective would be an 18+ inch barrel with a pistol grip for a oal greater than 26" - not an sbs. Any advice before I start hacking away would be great.

Ring test to make sure t is well attached at the seam all the way down then use a fine (32) hack saw and cut carefully. A bit over 18 to avoid trouble with a cop and a twisted tape.

agree with the 18.5 suggestion. There is no real advantage to under 20", but people like what they can't have.

Thanks on the lenght issue, 18.5 sounds good. Any issues with reshaping the stock to a pistol grip?

Just grab a hack saw and measure 10 times and cut slowly.

Use painters tape at exactly 18.5 so you have a line to follow. Also grab a can of Gunkote for the end after you cut it. Heard its a pretty decent finish. I plan on doing some on my AK74 when the parts finally come in. I've seen some jobs and it looks half decent of a finish.

I have done this by using tape to mark the line and to protect the good side, cut using a metal blade on my jigsaw, then carefully belts and the cut to match up with the straight line of the tape. Cold blue the end, install a new bead sight and it's gtg.

Rasp for the stock. You can shape it however you want. Including buying a new buttstock or a "second" from any of the suppliers. After you shape it with the rasp, you can go over the rest of it lightly to take off the finish to bare wood. Then finish however you want. BLO, Tung, stain, no stain, etc etc etc.
