Winchester Model 1897 Lever Action

My father in law has a Winchester Model 1887 Lever Action 12 GA Shotgun. It shoots old black powder shells. Ive done some google searches for him but I cant seem to really find a price range on what its worth. It was passed down to him from his father and from his father before him. It looks to be in great shape and I dont see any reason why it wouldnt fire. We are trying to get some shells to see how it handles. My father in law says the last time he saw it fired was when he was a kid.

Any info beside the normal google stuff would be greatly appreciated

You probably have a typo there 1897 is a pump 1887 is the lever.
What kind of barrel does it have? Steel wise? May be to early for nickel steel.
Probably uses the short 12 ga shells. Do a little search BP shot shells not hard to do.
