    Daves Metal Works Mag extension

Just installed a Daves Metal Works full length mag extension on my benelli m4, but it will only fit 6 rounds in the tube. Does anyone know if I have to cut the spring or do something that will make it fit all 7? Thanks!

What kind of shells are you using? Slugs tend to be a tad bit longer. Mine fits 7 rounds of birdshot exactly. Just a hair of extra space.

        A fired 2 3/4" shell is 2 3/4" long.

Shells with petals are around 2 1/2" long
Shells like S&B with the roll crimp and a flat piece of paper over the end are 2 3/4" long.

So what shells are you loading?

And no- you normally do not need to cut the spring.

All makes and models are different and do have some variation with stock spring length.

ahhh...I just loaded 7 winchester birdshot into it with no problem. The shells I were loading before were Remington 2 3/4 buckshots. It'll take 6 and then the 7th shell would go in up to the beginning of the brass. Thanks for all the info calgunners!!

Don't know what you mean when you say "phantom load", but if you're referring to getting a round into the chamber... remember that most shotguns are not "drop safe" when there's one in the pipe, even with the safety "on".

Sure, have an extra round in hand when going tactical and drop it in then, but when in transport mode, the chamber should be empty.

Please pardon me. I'm having an opinion. lol.

Is it common to only fit 6 00 buck in the extended M4's?

1 in the pipe, 1 in the carrier, 7 in the mag.

Try using the original spring. I had the same problem, now I get seven in the tube.
