    New Stoeger M2000 '"fix-up" questions

Just made a deal for a NIB Stoeger M2000 as a starter universal bird hunting shotgun.

The general consensus seems to be that this is a good starter gun.
While I don't expect major issues, there are some posts and videos on the web that indicate some issues - some of which are resolved with a through cleaning.

So, I'd like to put it to the community:

What are the typical/common issues with this gun and what are the solutions?

I'm particularly interested in the simple things I can do in a shop (with basic tools and a modicum of technical savvy) to improve performance and functioning and make the gun run more smoothly and reliably.

It goes without saying that major malfunctions stemming from production errors would be rectified by the manufacturer.

Clean it, shoot it, evaluate it. Resist the urge to tinker until you know it well. I saw a review on it on the Outdoor Channel a while back, and the gun got really good reviews. "You chose wisely".-the Templar Knight in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

      Thanks 'ol shooter.
I plan to make this my universal bird gun for two seasons. Maybe 3 if finances and desires are not aligned.

Rather than proactively fiddle with it, I was hoping to hear what commonly does go wrong or act up and how it's resolved.
The purpose of this is to recognize the problem for what it is (IF it occurs) and deal with it quickly and effectively).

I shoot with Khanan (member on Calguns) and he has a m2000. He is having FTE issues with his. I shoot with him basically every weekend and I've seen the FTE first hand.

He stated that it only ejects certain brands of ammo: Remington Gun Clubs and Federal Top Gun. Everything else is sporadic. He's replaced an ejection part(dont remember what the part name is) and its still giving him issues. It wasnt a problem last year since all ammo was readily available, but now it is due to ammo availability.

The ejector is held in by a screw on the back side of left side of the receiver. Take that screw out and put some blue locktite on it and put it back in.

My gun only seems to want to eject Federal Top Gun and Remington Gun Club ammo. It also worked well with some Estates. But some Estates are coming with what appears to be Cheddite shells and those do not cycle.

After break in as the owners manual tells you to do, I would test with different brands to see what works in your gun. Shoot at least a whole box of each through it to make sure it will consistently cycle.

I had one and used it for over 2 years for dove. I pumped 00 buck through it and then started to shoot dove with it. I had a couple of issues with Winchester universal, but with federal and all others no issues. I loved the gun!!! A friend bought it and never had an issue..I later ended up buying a beretta extrema 2

Another friend just bought a M3000...

              Are you using light loads?
Did you modify your stock or gun somehow?

Going off memory does the stoeger share the same recoil spring operation as the Benelli? If so the one thing you should do is take off the buttstock and clean the crap out of that spring and tube. I've had ejection issues where the bolt wouldn't fully close with my benelli in the past and it was due to "gunk" building up in there. Once I scrubbed that tube and spring good I've never had issues with it again.

Keep in mind it's a duck gun so it goes out in the foulest weather it can and gets seeds, dirt, crap in it. I wouldn't tinker with it right away b/c it may be just fine.

Check out this post from SGW

I promised this over Christmas. A little late, but... There are quite a few posts with people having issues, or fairly basic technical questions, with the M2000. Hopefully these posts will help clarify things somewhat. I am of the camp that generally takes the Stoeger as a $500 Benelli...

Not modifed. Using 3 dram 1 1/8 ounce loads. Estate Dove loads. Doesn't eject the hull. It extracts fine, it just leaves it laying in the action instead of ejecting it.

No modifications other than a limb saver.

It just went through a flat of Federal Top Gun ammo (the pink ones to be precise) this weekend without a single problem.

Took it to Jawbone today. Cycled fine. Very happy with the gun.
