Mossberg ghost ring sights - yes or no?

I'm talking about the Mossberg factory ghost ring sights that com pe on the 590A1. Who has used them and what was your experience?

Is the rear aperture too large to get accurate 75 yards shots slugs? Would I be better off just keeping the bead sight?

    Thanks,

Whats the application for? Honestly, I think you're better off with a bead sight. I have the ghost ring sights on my 590a1. They're cool and all but sometimes it hinders me from getting off fast shots.

i've never used the ghost ring sights on a Mossy...but FWIW, i mounted one of these on my Mossy and have never looked back.

and yes, it still holds zero after PLENTY of 00 and slugs thru the barrel.
If you suck with irons you will suck with optics. The difference is the aimpoint will allow you to suck faster and a scope will give you a closer look at how much you suck.

The Mossberg factory sights are fine.

It's mostly for 3-gun. I shot my firends 870 that has the XS ghost ring sights and I liked it for slugs. The mossberg 590A1 sights have a very visible front sight which I like but I never tried them other than shouldering a gun with them.

Aside from accuracy I'm wondering if I'll have to carry the gun differently. One of things I like about the mossberg is that I can wrap my hand around the receiver and thats how I carry it. Mounting anything on it might ruin it for me.

          What to do?

Mossberg factory GR sights are rugged and easily adjustable. I only suggest GR sights if the intended purpose is "slug heavy". With the proper load (slug) and sight adjustment, your SG should be able to deliver good hits to over 150 yards.
Now, general purpose SG work such as bird/clay shooting/ HD/SD I perfer a standard bead sight. GR sights actually inhibit my ability to track fast moving targets because my focus is drawn to the front sight post and figuring lead is harder IMO.
I can get good slug shots (actual groups) at 50 and 75 yards with a bead.
I own and use both kinds of sights simply because that is what the gun came with when purchased.
If the GR sights cost more and budget is an issue....get the bead and never look back :-)

My gun has the factory brass bead which I want to replace with something more visible. Cost isn't really an issue because even a basic night sight is going to cost me $30, what's another $30-$40 if it will make my shooting experience better.

Are these the same variety as what is on the 930 SPX? They appear to be, if so, I admit, grudgingly that I like them quite a bit. My other SG's have a bead another is bead with vented rib.

I feel the most confident with shots at range using my GR sights with slugs or buck. I have been able to accurately but OO on target out to 40 yards pretty consistently and slugs I can get out to 150+ easy.

OP, what do you shoot best with? Maybe have a shotgun day where you shoot pumps, semi's beads, vented ribs, GR, optics, etc. It took me a while to find my perfect set up for a SG and to be honest, its always evolving.

                and thats my .02

No they are different. These are the sights I'm considering,

It would look something like this,

Yes. You have to have a smith silver solder the front and then refinish. Worth it to me.

I use GR, but also I am cross-eyed dominant, bead or other open sights (such as AK) don't really work for me.

I had both bead and currently ghost ing. Prefer ghost ring. Shoot with both eyes open. Once to get used to it you won't go back to bead

I love them on my 590A1 SPX. They make the gun that much more accurate when zero'd and for me, very easy to use.

I have the ghost rings on my 590A1 and I love them. It makes no difference to me if I'm shooting birdshot or slugs, those ghost rings are great. I used it for 3-gun until I retired it for a semi-auto. The semi-auto doesn't recoil nearly as much and cycles fast! So my speed increased dramatically. But it had nothing to do with the sights. I have a grooved rear and fiber optic front on my semi, but felt there was no improvement over my ghost ring for speed of acquisition and sight picture. I like both and shoot well with both.
