My HD shotgun is loaded with 00 but I may have to research switching to #1 buckshot... Where would you find #1 buckshot from anyway??

S&B is one company off the top of my head that regularly has #1 buck loads.
SG Ammo has their 15pellet load

Dang only a couple small boxes of 00?, I have 500 rounds of Federal 00 and feel I need more.

Go to SGammo.com and order you some cases.

#4 buck would work, but I think 00 is ideal for social work.

I have even tested birdshot, and at 18 feet (the farthest distance I can figure I would shoot in my home) there is almost no spread. I would have no qualms about using birdshot if that was what I had available.
I would definitely have qualms about using birdshot...lack of penetration. If it worked, cops and military would be using it. Obviously, if it's all you had you have no other choice.

I'd still be more concerned about stopping the actor that penetrating walls, but that seems to be a California thing.

            Shot diameter is .13" vs .24" for bird/buck #4.
