    Need help determining Grade of my Superposed

    Hi all,

    Wanted to see if anyone can shed any light on which grade this Browning Superposed I have inherited recently. I have called Browning because the first three digits of my serial number do not conform with what's listed on their website, but the historian wasn't there so a message has been left for him. Hopefully Monday I'll get to talk to him, but i thought maybe some of you might have some insight into this shotgun. Mostly looking for what grade superposed this is and if anyone knows about the engraver Augustus Poes? Also I'm looking for an insurance value. Thanks for any help anybody offers.

      Where are you located? There are a few shops in the greater LA area that deal in new / used guns.

      Brownings tool a hit in price when lead was banned for waterfowl hunting die to fixed chokes.

      Steel shot, tungston shot and larger pellets just do not work well from the fixed chokes.

      I like the wood on the stock but I do not know how to tell the different models apart.

      Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

      Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

      Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

      Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

        The engraving on the sides (birds) and bottom (dog) look very basic low quality.

            Not correct. These alternate shots will work but do not pattern the same as lead. For example, steel in an IM choke may pattern the same as lead in an extra full choke. Often it is not recommended to put steel through full chokes.

              Ask here, they'll know http://www.shotgunworld.com/bbs/viewforum.php?f=95

              It may be a "Miller's" gun. They do a lot of limited stuff.

                ><

                ^^^^^ Its going to be hard....not a typical Browning Model

                Superlight forend.....Grand Lightning grade or above wood.....not a Lightning model, not a Superlight, ...engraver not a listed factory Master or typical engraving pattern

                I'd go with special order or a redone Citori.

                    Well thanks again for all the replys...

                    I am in the LA area. I was told by the guys at Oak Tree Gun Club it was a superposed, and by the serial numbers it matches closest to the superposed, and by the guy at browning that it was a superposed. It has threaded invector chokes. and yes there is a hairline crack in forend which i was going to take to JS stocks in azusa to get a quote on fixing. I'll let you guys know what the historian at browning comes up with if i talk to him this week.

                      I have a feeling it might be a special order done as a gift that never got used, just because it's got all these mixtures of things going on and the first 3 digits of serial number being odd. Again i gots no clue really just a guess

                        This is correct as far as the date of manufacture are concerned.

                        The "PP" code in the serial number is the dead giveaway for the date of manufacture. The three-digit numeric in advance of the alphas, however, doesn't match up to anything I've seen for Superposed shotguns.
                        213 = 12 ga
                        233 = 20 ga
                        173 = 28 ga
                        183 = .410 bore.

                        Gotta be a special run of someone's.

                        Good luck.

                            Citori. Looks like a Grade 3.

                            Still a damn nice shotgun. Take it to the range and have some fun

                              If it has threaded chokes its a citori. All superposed have fixed chokes.
