"English" gun cleaning?

I have a real nice SxS headed my way and was thinking about cleaning it when it arrives. How many of you folks use those fancy cleaning tools that you see in magazines. You know; ebony rods, silver bottles, handmade "turnscrews" and such? Is there any evidence that this upgraded stuff will actually help? What say you? Thanks...

No. It just looks cool. It does nothing more than the $10 plastic kit you get at walmart.

If it makes your cleaning experience better then yes absolutely it will help. ;-)

I use the American method, a boresnake and some spray cleaner. My cleaning experience is fast and efficient so I can get back to taking care of business!

Fancy pants expensive tools for a hobby that seems pretty much exclusively for the well off. It's no surprise they manage to sell such things considering the buyers.

Don't know about English guns but these Austrian guns get a bore snake followed by a tornado brush with a standard rod with #9, followed by a mop on a standard rod, then patches until clean, and finally patches with Remoil - that's for the barrels. The outside gets a wipe down with Hoppes #9 then a wipe down dry, then a wipe down with Remoil.

No it will not make your gun any cleaner when you are done cleaning, but clearly for a lot of people, the process and the quality of the tools used gives some satisfaction. Similar to buying a $150 duck call that only the humans think sound more like a duck than the $15 duck call due to the price. (maybe not the best analogy) Gun cleaning tools are basic tools and need not be extravagant to get the job done. With that said, I do have some top of the line, top dollar cleaning tools for the satisfaction I get using them stated above! Buy what you can, based on your budget, but know your guns will not know the difference.
