    Beretta A300 not cycling properly

    Hello,

I recently got a buddy into shooting clays and he bought a Beretta A300.

The gun cycles un-fired ammo no problem when manually pulling the bolt back and letting it slide forward on it's own.

When firing the gun it will not eject the spent shells. And closes the action with the spent shell still in the chamber. It has this problem with out anything in the tube or with a second round in the tube.

I asked a local gun shop and they said that the A300 requires a 1.25oz shell. I hadn't heard a semi needing such a heavy load, my 11-87 has performed flawlessly with 1oz shells.

I downloaded the manual for the gun and noticed is says the following.
The Beretta A300 Outlander semi-automatic shotgun has different
cartridge chambers, depending on the version. The shotgun does not
require adjustments or interventions to shoot from 70 mm (2 3/4 in) /24 g
    (7/8 oz), to 76 mm (3 in) /57 g (2 oz) cartridges.
Anything else we should look at on the Beretta A300?

    Thanks.

I had one in a Sporting Clays version shot everything. Check the manual and make sure it's been put back together right.

I have an a300 and have had no issues. However, I've read on the internet (including here on Calguns, if memory serves) of a couple of instances of cycling problems, which required a return of the gun to Beretta for repair. I'd give them a call.

Put 250 rounds thru, then check back.Sometimes new guns need a br eak in period.I'd shoot once and an 1/8 for the first couple of hundred rounds.

Yes, that's the thread I remember and in particular this:

I've had a A300 since January and now have about 1800 shells through it and I haven't had a singe hang up, period. I also use mine to shoot sporting clays.

Check to see if there is anything obstructing the little hole that goes from the barrel to the gas valve (when you slide out the valve you will see two small holes, only one of them goes all the way through to the barrel).

Are you sure that barrel is assembled correctly on the gun? I remember that when I put mine together for the first time I somehow managed to over tighten the nut and the bolt was kinda sticking in the chamber. You shouldn't feel and kind of sticking when you pull the bolt back, just the spring.

What kind of shells are you using? Mine has shot mostly 1-1/8 oz, but has also shot 1 oz flawlessly.

And of course I've also read that a few of these shot guns need a break in period...however mine did not.

The gun has a couple hundred rounds through it by now. All 1oz target loads.

Next time I see him we'll hit the gas valve pretty hard with Hoppes #9 and then try some heavier loads through it to see if that will get it cycling properly.

Hope we won't have to send the gun in for repair as mentioned in the link you provided. We'll give it a good cleaning and and try some heavier loads first.

                  Thanks for the input.

Also try hotter / different loads. Just to rule out it's not the ammo.

Is the forend seated all the way down?? This will cause cycling problems on a 391, which bears a close resemblance to the gas system used on the A300...

Forend is seated all the way. It's snug and doesn't wobble once it's in.

May also pay more attention to how tight he screws on the Fore-end cap as that being to tight has also been mentioned.

Break it in, mine is cycling 3/4 oz loads , I changed the gas piston on my to one from the excel 1400. Cheap upgrade that makes it cycle light loads. Last but not least, put your shoulder to it , mine will nt cycle right with little shoulder pressure
